Journey To Arlington
Michael Cooke joined the Marine Corps in 1986. He went through Reconnaissance trainings and was called to serve in Operation Desert Storm.
On February 22, 1991, Michaels mother, Joan had the visit from Marine Corps Officers while at work. Michael, her only child, had been killed. He was 22 years old.
Joan is originally from Liverpool, England. She immigrated and became a US citizen. Her
son fought and died for the country that not only Michael loved, but she does, too.
Fast forward 20 years.
Michael was buried at St. John Neumann’s Cemetery in Chalfont , PA. Joan would like to go back to her family in England, but cannot leave Michael since they do not have family here. After much soul searching, Joan paid a visit to PA State Rep. Tom Murt’s office and was able to gain approval to move Michael to Arlington National Cemetery. Joan said she would be at peace knowing he was with his fellow soldiers, that he would have the respect so deserving there. The journey, in total, is $6,000.
